Why join?

All school committee members, including students, deserve high-quality training, professional development and networking opportunities to be effective in their role. Investing in student representatives can be transformative, supporting meaningful representation, increased student engagement and youth leadership development.

MASR is the only organization offering training and professional development exclusively tailored to student representatives in Massachusetts. MASR offers resources, including the Student Representative Handbook to ensure student representatives statewide can be effective in their role.

  • The Student Trustee Action Readiness Training - START Conference immerses student board members into their incoming roles like no other training, ensuring that participants have the skills, knowledge, and tools to be effective leaders from the start of their term on the school committee.

  • The MASR Delegate Assembly is the largest annual convening of student representatives in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Fielding participants from the Berkshires to Boston, new and former student representatives come together for professional learning, networking, and collaboration to better understand the topics that are most important to students and student representatives across Massachusetts.

  • The MASR Spring Conference is aimed at reflecting on and celebrating accomplishments that student representatives have achieved throughout their term, discussing key challenges for the upcoming year, and preparing student representatives to "pass the torch" to their successor.

  • MASR offers year-round access to the most expansive network of student representatives in Massachusetts, where members can receive feedback, share advice, ask questions, and learn of more opportunities to get involved.

NSBMA is the only national network of student board members. Founded by former student board members, we prepare student board members to actively participate in education decision-making through peer-to-peer and near-peer training, professional development, and networking, empowering them to drive meaningful change in their schools and communities. NSBMA is uniquely situated to serve the specific needs of student board members.
